Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, has called on Christians and Nigerians from all walks of life to use the occasion of the Easter celebration to reflect on its significance in the life of the nation.

Governor Imoke noted that it would amount to hollow ritual if the import of the celebration is not underscored by the appreciation of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ with its central theme on sacrifice.

In his Easter goodwill message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Ita, Imoke urged Christians to use the opportunity of the celebration to rededicate themselves to the values of love, peace, sacrifice and tolerance as embodied in the death of the Saviour, Jesus Christ.

According to the Governor, “as we celebrate Easter, let us reflect on the significance of the season, which is sacrifice, to team together as a people. The joyful news that He is risen does not alter the contemporary world. Still before us, lie tolerance, accommodation, work and discipline. But the fact of Easter gives us the spiritual power to appreciate the truth that His dying moment on the cross offers us the greatest illustration of forgiveness possible.”

While enjoining modest celebration, Imoke noted that, “the import of Christ’s resurrection was not to engage in wild and lavish celebration but to give our lives meaning and direction and the opportunity to close ranks, no matter our differences and circumstances.”

While wishing the country peace, joy, the warmth of friendship and the steady hand of love, Imoke enjoined Nigerians to eschew hate and bigotry, which was what Christ espoused before His supreme sacrifice on the cross.
