KADUNA State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed that prominent members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that of other political parties have been meeting with the top executive members of the party to discuss plans on how to ensure victory of the opposition party in the coming governorship election. These other party members have also indicated intention to defect to the APC.
This came as the Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero visited those injured during the post election jubilation over the victory of the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari following the declaration of the outcome of the election.
Governor Yero had directed that those injured during the jubilation across the state be treated free in state hospitals while condoling with families of those that lost their lives in the incidences.
Yero also visited the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria where 26 persons injured during the celebrations were on admission for various degrees of injuries.
Conducting the Governor and his entourage round the wards, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the hospital, Professor Abdullahi Mohammed said that of the number admitted at the hospital, 12 persons have been discharged while the remaining 14 are still receiving treatment.
The Governor told the hospital management that the state government would off set all bills while calling on people in the State to continue to live peacefully with one another irrespective of their perceived political and religious differences.
Corroborating the APC claim, its gubernatorial candidate, Malam El-Rufai said that he had held series of meetings with some PDP bigwigs in Kaduna state, adding that the APC “will soon receive prominent politicians and thousands of their followers into the APC ahead of the April 11 governorship election.”
Spokesperson of the Kaduna State APC Campaign Council, Mr. Samuel Aruwan in the statement on behalf of El-theRufai pointed out that “after series of closed-door meetings the APC candidates had with prominent politicians from 23 local government areas of the state,” they resolved to work together ahead of the polls.
“These politicians have been coming to express solidarity and intimate our candidate of their intention to join APC. Prominent politicians from the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State have been paying solidarity visit to the private residence of APC Governorship candidate, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.”
The statement continued: “They discussed wide range of issues bordering on the under-development and abysmal backwardness of the state. They also expressed concern over deep division and polarization of citizens of the state on ethnic and religious lines. They lamented that this poses great danger to the peace and development of the state. They resolved to help kick out the PDP government so that the state can resume the pursuit of progress in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.”
“After expressing satisfaction with El-Rufai’s acceptability and strategic plans for development and unity of the state, they made their intention known to join the APC along with their supporters.”
