Ondo to invest more in education, says Mimiko

MimikoOndo state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has assured the people of the state of his intention to invest more in education sector and provide conducive environment for effective learning and teaching across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee on conditions of service for Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), which was “mandated to evolve a comprehensive manual on the conditions of service,” for the commission, Mimiko said: “Education as you know is the basic foundation for social and economic development and as well, a key point in this administration’s mantra aptly titled ‘Caring Heart.”

He stated that his government had embarked on “massive investment in the restoration and expansion of existing structures in the schools, so as to provide child-friendly environment for effective teaching and
learning.”

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Kola Ademujimi, the governor claimed that it had repositioned Quality Assurance Agency, provided robust welfare package and capacity building programmes to motivate the teachers and all education managers in the state.

“The release of a condition of service, which will reflect the realities of locations of posting of staff and duty posts allowances, will go a long way to complement government’s efforts,” the Governor
said.

In his address, the Chairman of the commission, Bakkita Bello, appreciated the governor for his interest in the sector, especially for the recent promotion of 4,001 teaching and non-teaching staff, and inauguration of “the committee set up to produce a working document in respect of conditions of service for staff in public secondary schools in Ondo State.”

He expressed faith in the committee and its ability to help strengthening TESCOM for efficient and more effective service delivery.
