BITTER words of acrimony have continued to come from the leadership of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) over the results of the recent National Assembly poll in Anambra State.
While the PDP urged all the defeated National Assembly candidates of the APGA in the March 28 elections to accept the loss gallantly, it insisted that the party had remained humble, even in its victories, especially as power and authority come from God Almighty.
Addressing journalists in Awka in reaction to a statement credited to the state Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Tony Onyima, on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano, that APGA was robbed of victory, the immediate past chairman of PDP in the state, Prince Ken Emeakayi, said that Anambra has always been a traditional PDP state.
He described previous political success of APGA in the recent past as mere flash in the pan, and mostly negotiated. Emeakayi also alleged that the people’s past support for APGA was superficial and never skin-deep, maintaining that the PDP is poised to take back its traditional position, including the governorship position in 2017.
He revealed that PDP is going to legally challenge the results of Anambra East/Anambra West Federal Constituency as well as that of Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency both of which were won by APGA.
Onyima, in his presentation, described the result as great injustice and appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the whole result.
But Emeakayi stated that the results were sequel to painstaking campaigns, hard work and grassroots mobilisation by the PDP, while APGA went to sleep. He, therefore, warned the APGA to stop disparaging its members in the media and go to the tribunal if it is confident of its claims.
