FORMER Super Eagles’ defender, Sunday Eboigbe, who has been suffering from stroke, is among ex-internationals, coaches and government officials expected at the final of the 2015 Edo FA Cup at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Wednesday.
The final match pitches giant killers, Kukuruku Dragons of Auchi against BJ Foundation of Benin by 4.00 p.m.. Before then, Fortress Ladies will battle with Edo Queens in the women version of the FA Cup by 2.00 p.m.
According to the Edo FA, Governor Adams Oshiomhole will lead a government delegation to the venue, while former national coaches, Alabi Aisien, Sebastian Brodericks, Godwin Izilein, Shuaibu Amodu and retired stars, including David Aigbovo and Monday Eguavoen, are also expected to grace the occasion.
Edo FA chairman, Frank Ilaboya, who recently paid Eboigbe a visit, appealed to fans across the state to join the former Super Eagles star in making both finals memorable.
He said, “Eboigbe is excited to be back and he wants to watch the final games. We have made arrangement to take him to and from the stadium.
“The FA board met on Friday to ensure a successful closing ceremony of the competition. We want the fans to come to the stadium in large numbers to witness a revival in Edo football.
“This is our first assignment and we want to make a statement with it.”
The FA board has courted several sponsors to make the event a successful one.
Regional Operations Director, Airtel, Veronica Onoja, said, “As sponsors, Airtel will give the first 100 fans at the stadium 100 T-shirts, while fans also have a chance of winning SIM cards at half-time.”
On his part, CEO Zenith Sports, Paul Maduakor, stated, “We have provided two sets of medals for the final and three awards for outstanding players and officials of the competition. We will also provide kits for ball boys.”
MD Ohonba Line, Godwin Ohonba, added that the transport company have made available buses for the final day.
Last year’s winners, Bendel Insurance, crashed out to Inneh Stars, while BJ Foundation defeated 2014 finalists, Dynamite, on penalties after a 1-1 draw to book a final place. Dragons overcame Crown FC in the other semi-final.
