Sunshine Stars tackle Akwa United, as battles for quarterfinal tickets begin

Akure side, Sunshine Stars, will tackle defending champions, Akwa United, for one of the Federation Cup quarterfinal tickets today in Makurdi. It is the opening match of the men’s Federation Cup round of 16, which holds today and tomorrow across the country. The quarterfinal matches of the women’s event of the Federation Cup will also hold today and tomorrow in venues across the country.

Akwa United won the trophy last year by beating Lobi Stars in the final played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. But they face a hard fighting Sunshine Stars in their bid to win only their second national title.

Other matches slated for tomorrow include the Crown FC of Ogbomosho versus Enugu Rangers clash in Kaduna, Rivers United meeting with Shooting Stars of Ibadan at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna tomorrow, and the Wikki Tourists of Bauchi versus Plateau United clash in Akure on the same day.

FC IfeanyiUbah will take on Katsina United at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin tomorrow, the same day that Nasarawa United will test might with Dynamite FC of Benin City at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, with Warri Wolves battling Prime FC of Oshogbo at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the postponed Round of 32 clash between Enyimba FC and El-Kanemi Warriors will come up in Abuja tomorrow, with the winner earning the right to clash with J. Atete FC of Delta State at a later date.

In the women’s competition, Abia Angels will take to the field in Lokoja against Nasarawa Amazons, as Delta Queens and Katsina Queens do battle in Abuja today.

Champions Sunshine Queens of Akure will tango with Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt in Abuja tomorrow, while the game between Bayelsa Queens and COD United Ladies of Lagos has been moved to Lokoja.
