
No fewer than 23 graduands of Adeleke University (AU), Ede, Osun State are rounding off their undergraduate programmes in the First Class Division.
They would be part of those to be conferred with their first degrees at the school’s second convocation ceremony, taking place on Sunday July 17, 2016.
Vice chancellor of the university, Professor Oluwole Amusan at a press briefing Tuesday said that of the total 265 graduands, 143 are finishing in the Second Class Upper Division; 97 leaving with second class lower degrees while the balance would go home with degrees in third class category.
According to the vice chancellor, five eminent Nigerians including His Royal Highness, the Timi of Ede land, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal; Elder Enoch Dare; Elder Ibekwe Egbuta; Mr Adewale Adeeyo, and Chief (Mrs) Modupe Adeleke Sanni, would be honoured with doctorate degrees.
He said the five-year-old university has recorded feats in areas of academics and made outstanding breakthroughs in research relevant to the development of the society.
“We continue to encourage and support innovative research relevant to our nation. I will just give two examples of our recent research breakthroughs, which can be of great use in the country.
First is the Antioxidant and Hepatoprotective potentials of Lemon Juice and Sorghum Mixture against Paracetamol-induced liver Damage in rat. The second is the application of computer programming to enhance and promote rural women prompt attendance at antenatal clinic.”
He added that the university has to date, succeeded in securing accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC), for all the 13 courses it introduced at inception.
In a related development, the governing council of the institution under the chairmanship of Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, has appointed principal officers to pilot its activities with effect from August 1, 2016.
The principal officers are to be led by President/Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ekundayo Alao.
Alao, an alumnus of several universities including Andrews University, Berrien Springs Michigan and the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, United States, where he bagged a bachelor and masters degrees in Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Mass Communication and Media Studies among others.
Until his appointment, he was the Provost, College of Social Sciences, Babcock University, and had earlier served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Babcock University, CEO, Centre for Executive Development, Babcock Consulting Limited, Dean/Head of Department, Mass Communication, Chairman of various university committees and was a former Chairman/CEO, Daily Times of Nigeria, Plc.
Alao, fellow of several bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Management, Nigerian Guild of Editors, and Institute of Fraud Examiners, is a seasoned academic and administrator with passion for research and entrepreneurship development. He has won several awards in the course of his career.
Others principal officers are Senior Vice President/Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Solomon Ajayi Adebola, whose academic qualifications include a B.Sc (Hons), Mathematics in 1975 from the University of Ibadan; a Diploma in Management, an MBA, an MSc (Banking & Finance), and a PhD in Management Sciences from University of Ilorin.
The Vice President, Enrolment/Records is Dr. Toyin Segun Onayinka, who holds a PhD in Mass Communication from Babcock University, two Masters degrees in Personnel Psychology, Language and Communication Arts from University of Ibadan, a postgraduate diploma in Education and Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language.
Until his appointment, Dr Onayinka was a Deputy Registrar and Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University of Technology, Akure.
