FTK… Another music twins step out

FTK2No doubt, the success story of sensational music twins, Peter and Paul Okoye, popularly known as P-Square, greatly encouraged some twins to look towards the showbiz industry. From their humble beginning in Jos, the Plateau State capital to their current rating as one of the leading voices in African hip-hop, P-Square, no matter their internal differences, remains a household name.

Following in that footstep, FTK, another music twins are gradually stepping up their game in the music industry, with the hope of hitting it big soon. Though currently students of Babcock University, where they are studying Mass Communication, Falobi Taiwo and Kehinde are determined to build a career in music. And with their ability to play musical instruments, the coast seems clear for the lads.

From recording their first singles in 2014, FTK as a group has released four singles, with two videos, while plans have reached advanced stage for the release of their three new singles that would herald their debut album.

“Actually, we had to do some things on our own; we spoke to our mum who is abroad to help us record our first singles. It was after we had recorded our two tracks that we went to our dad and told him we wanted to do music. So, professionally, we came into the industry in 2014 and we shot our first video that same year,” Taiwo said.

On their decision to seek formal music training, he explained that, “when we decided to do music, we thought it wise to go for a formal training in a music school. So, we went to Tenstrings Music School where we did voice coaching and instrument; we both play the guitar.”

Kehinde added, “We are at the stage in our live where we’ve found our passion and what we love. We’ve been into music for some time, but when we decided to do it professionally, we decided to go to a music school. In a lot of ways, P-Square inspires us a lot; we’ve been following their career.”

As a follow up to their earlier releases such as Assasin, I Don Crase, Shout Out, Shake Bum Bum, FTK recently teamed up with singer 9ice for a remix of their single Gbe Soke, with a video shot by Director Kill.

“It’s an upbeat club song; it’s hippy. However, we didn’t target 9ice because he’s already there; we worked with him because his voice suits the sound we have. Yes, he’s already known in the industry, his music is known across the globe, but more importantly, we wanted something mature; something different from the usual,” Taiwo said.

Though their father is the one sponsoring their music career, the twins are confident that money or women will be a problem for them.“For now, our dad is the one sponsoring our music, but we share the same account; there’s no cheating,” Kehinde noted.

As for girls, “that’s not a problem; we are used to the extra attention that we get from people,” Taiwo quipped. While listing Patoranking, 2Baba and Olamide as their dream collaborations, FTK noted that, “we will get to P-Square, but for now, we want them to hear us and say, ‘oh, we want to feature these boys.”

He added, “As much as we admire P-Square, we are not trying to create that image of too much similarity like they did. Sometimes, we dress alike, but we don’t intentionally want to come to you as twins; we want people to find that out,” they said.

Though their minds are made on music, the twins are not disregarding their education. “Right now, we want to focus on our music, but education is always very important. So, in the future, we might toy with the idea of having a media house, at least a radio station. But no matter what happens, we are still going to continue singing,” Taiwo enthused.
