
Featuring on NUJ Jigawa Correspondent Chapel of Media Engagement at Manpower Development Institute, Dutse, yesterday, the commissioner added that the roads were classified into three: regional (15), township (20) and feeder (three).
The roads covering 97.4km were constructed at a whopping sum of N142.83 billion.
Usman also stated that the Mohammed Abubakar administration was able to complete all the inherited road projects covering 716.5km at N88,439,545,482.44, out of which the previous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government was able to pay N32.5 billion.
According to him, the 15 regional roads that cover 476.266km were constructed with N54,776,022,383.74.
“Similarly, we inherited seven of feeder roads, covering 97.4km at a cost of N1,652180,784.12. The previous regime paid N1,080,903,210.80 and we have settled the balance and completed all the roads.
“We inherited 22 township roads covering 142.83km awarded at N32012,342,314 by the previous PDP government led by Sule Lamido, in which only N13,759,542,016.81 was paid and we completed the roads,” Usman said.
He further stated that his ministry was able to repair 99 roads through the support of Jigawa State Road Maintenance Agency (JIRMA) at N22.8 billion, in addition to fixing solar-powered lights in major towns and villages, schools, among other public buildings at N7.5 billion.
“On fire services, we received 130 emergency calls, saved about 57 lives, but lost 235, while property worth N513,256,518 were saved from fire outbreak, as against over N200m property lost to fire outbreak in different locations of the state in the period under review.
