
Artmosphere, one of Nigeria’s leading culture, music and literature events, will host poet laureate and winner of Folon Nicholos Prize 2016, Prof. Tanure Ojaide, and journalist, novelist and Honorary Fellow, Nigeria Academy of Letters, Mr. Sam Omatseye to an engaging reading and conversation on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan. Time is 3pm.
The writers will be engaged on their recent works, Song of Myself by Ojaide and My Name is Okoro by Omatseye. Song of Myself is an offering from the Udje poetry tradition of the Urhobo and the stylistic vision of the poet laureate. It talks about a myriad of themes including love, culture, politics, and environment amongst others.
My Name is Okoro is an alternative narration of the Biafran war from the point of view of the Niger Delta minorities and how they were negatively impacted, especially at the 49th anniversary of the Nigeria Civil War. The novel prods readers on the need negotiate the ethnic relations of Nigeria’s landscape.
Curator of Artmosphere, Mr. Femi Morgan and literary critic, Mr. Ademola Adesola will moderate the event.
Artmospher is a book, arts, music and culture event that has engendered artistic and intellectual, social and political conversations, and has hosted the likes of Prof. Niyi Osundare, Mr. Victor Ehikhamenor, Mr. Efe Paul Azino, Dr. Tunde Adegbola, Mr. Chuma Nwokolo, Ayeola Mabiaku, and Mr. Tade Ipadeola, amongst others. It has organised creative writing workshops.
