Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the conspiracy theory that those working to secure tenure extension for him may be behind the coordinated terror attacks across the country.

It also applauded the President’s decision to categorically warn supporters of the third term gambit to perish the idea, as he would step down as the Constitution stipulates on May 29, 2023.

The National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, stated in Abuja, yesterday, the imperativeness of Buhari setting a timeline for his military commanders within which time the war on terror must come to a manageable conclusion.

The rights group said those promoting the violence might be doing so, thinking that a situation of uncontrolled terrorism would eventually lead to state of emergency, and force the incumbent President to continue in power, since election would be postponed.

HURIWA said anything outside a clear timeline for the end of the war on terror and the immediate declaration of armed Fulani attackers as terrorists would definitely validate the alleged conspiracy theory that “the Buhari government does not wish to conduct free and fair election” for its successor.

MEANWHILE, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) will hold Defence Advisers/Attachés Annual Conference and Maiden Retreat from November 8 to 13, 2021.

The conference is themed ‘Advancing Counter-Terrorism Efforts Through Enhanced Inter-Agency Cooperation: A Whole of Government Approach.’

The Acting Assistant Director, DIA, Major Joseph Afolashade, stated, yesterday, that the event was scheduled to hold at DIA Headquarters and Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Asokoro, Abuja.

It reads: “The event is one of the veritable platforms designed by the agency to examine and re-appraise Nigeria’s defence advisers/attachés and foreign defence relations. It will also assist in articulating new strategies in intelligence gathering.

“The event will, no doubt, be the first in the annals of the agency since. This is owing to the fact that no platform was created for institutional reflections on its activities with a view to measuring the attainment of its core mandate.”
