The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, has announced the indefinite closure of the institution, the following protest by students against its ‘no fees, no examination policy’.

The students had been scheduled to start their first-semester examination yesterday. The management, however, insisted no student would be allowed to participate without payment of fees.

The Guardian learnt trouble started after students who were yet to register and pay fees were denied entrance into examination halls.

The protest, which lasted hours, left commuters on the Owo-Ikare Expressway stranded, as business activities around the university were paralysed.

A circular signed by the Registrar, Mr. Olugbenga Arujulu, and sent to staff and students, read: “Following the violent protest of students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, today, Monday, November 22, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, has, on behalf of the senate of the university, directed that the university be closed indefinitely.

“All students are, therefore, advised to vacate their halls of residence and the university campus with immediate effect. Parents and guardians should take note of this important information.”
