Cargolux-sponsored Lagos Country Club’s Squash competition rounded off last Saturday in Ikeja with the defending champion, Hanniel Hadison, retaining his title.
Hadison from Lagos Country Club has won the tournament six times in the past and on Saturday still brushed aside stiff opposition from Dele Obasuyi of Benin Club 3-1 to cart home the prizes at stake.
“It is true that I have won it several times in the past, but this year’s edition was different because several of the games entered into rubber before I was able to overcome Obasuyi,” he said shortly after winning the tie.

In other games, Mike Nwabuzor of Ikoyi Club easily trounced Bosco Kuong of Lagos Public Service 3 – 0, while Gabriel Olufumilayo of Kwara Club defeated Abe Shedrack of Ogun Club 3 – 2 to win the U19 category. 15 clubs from across the country participated in the competition.
At the end of the event, Chairman/CEO Cargolux Merchant Express, Captain Shina Akinfeyiwa, assured their readiness to continue bankrolling the competition because “it gives me joy to see these children participating in it and enjoying the game.”
Chairman, Squash section of Lagos Country Club, Arch. Funmi Bamkole praised the sponsors for their effort and commitment in sustaining the game for the past 12 years.
He assured that they would continue to work to improve on the organisation of the tournament with every edition to achieve the desired results.
