Chinese consulate, community sponsor cataract surgeries for 20 Nigerians.

The Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, in partnership with the Chinese Community in Nigeria, has sponsored cataract surgeries for 20 Nigerians at the Eye Doctors clinic in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Chinese Consulate General in Lagos, in partnership with the Chinese Community in Nigeria, has sponsored cataract surgeries for 20 Nigerians at the Eye Doctors clinic in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The initiative, a charity programme, “Renewed Hope, Rebirth from the Light,” finances cataract patients in Nigeria has successfully sponsored surgeries for a total of 30 cataract patients so far.

Speaking at the event, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing stated that the programme marks the third phase of the charity project, adding that a total of 33 successful surgeries have been completed under sponsorship.

She added that is a improving the lives of the underprivileged has been the core value of the consulate and the Chinese Community.

“Recently, we launched a public welfare project to support anti-malaria efforts in Cross River State, bringing hope for improved health to the local community.

“Looking to the future, let us ignite a wave of cooperation in advancing modernisation and building a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future, and join hands to bring about a bright future of peace, security, prosperity, and progress for our world.”

Also speaking, a representative of the Chinese Community, Loi Eng Koon, said the programme was part of commitment to fostering strong ties and mutual support.

“We are glad to make a difference in the lives of our Nigerian friends.

“The beneficiaries of the cataract surgeries, who had been struggling with impaired vision, now have a renewed sense of hope and gratitude, so we are very happy that we are making positive impacts on the lives of people in society.”

On his part, a beneficiary, Sanya Adegoriola, said: “I am deeply thankful to the Chinese Consulate and Community for coming to our aid. This surgery has given me a new lease on life; I can now use my two eyes properly.”
