‘Welfare of Nigerian legion is our priority’

Over 5, 000 Members Employed – Sanwo-Olu,

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed that the state government has employed over 5, 000 members of the Nigerian Legion.

Speaking, yesterday, at the parade and wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Sanwo-Olu said that the state government would continue to support the Nigerian Armed Forces by providing basic infrastructure within military formations and intelligence facilities to keep the state safe.

At the event held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said that his government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has been proactive in ensuring the welfare of Nigerian legion and their spouses of fallen heroes were taken care of adequately.

He said various interventions had been made by his administration to help them with skills and empowerment programmes.

He further stated that about N50m was donated by the state government to support them to launch the emblem, among others.

The event featured a parade, 21-gun salutes and a minute silence in honour of fallen heroes.

Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Anofiu Elegushi, members of the state executive council, military personnel, members of the Nigerian Legion (Lagos State Chapter), lawmakers among others.
