Ex-head of ervice, Sali, blames economic woes on lack of planning

Former Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF), Isah Sali, has blamed the nation’s current economic challenges on lax latitude, lack of strategic planning and failure to move with the times.

Sali spoke at the 2016 public service lecture held in Abuja yesterday.

He said: “The present harsh economic realities Nigeria is facing are not necessarily the result of external events around the globe or even within our borders; rather, they are indicative of our lax attitude to strategic planning, failure to move with the times, to be creative, imaginative and innovative in our approach to management of our economy, sports or infrastructure.’’

Isah Ali, who was the guest speaker at the occasion, said government must go back to the history of the Nigerian public service and evaluate previous reforms.

Also, in a goodwill message, Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Joan Ayo, informed civil servants that the commission was putting in place measures that would improve the morale of employees, adding that as soon as it is approved, civil servants would benefit immensely, especially in hardworking and innovations.

Earlier in her welcome address, HoSF, Winifred Oyo-Ita, said: ‘’We cannot continue to do things the old ways, failing which we shall all sink. And to keep afloat therefore, the civil service must continuously be innovative as it is one of the best ways to sustain and enrich our knowledge.’’
