To demonstrate his love and support for the team, President Muhammadu Buhari, had a telephone conversation with players and officials of the Super Eagles yesterday morning before their Round of 16 match against the Carthage of Eagles of Tunisia in Garoua.
Since the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun, Buhari has made it a duty to send words of encouragement and appreciation to the team, particularly after each victory.
He did so after the Eagles overpowered the Pharaohs of Egypt in the opening group match, and repeated when Nigeria beat Guinea-Bissau to top the group with maximum nine points.
But Buhari decided to change the pattern yesterday by calling the players and technical crew members in the morning before the game against Tunisia.
“We are proud of what you have done so far in the tournament,” he said. “Continue to make Nigeria proud. We are solidly behind you.”
