Lagos State government has concluded plans to empower over 100,000 residents with digital skills through its Eko Digital Training Project. 
 
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Tokunbo Wahab, who stated this, said over 341,000 residents have so far benefited from the project since 2019.
   
He added that over 60,000 penultimate and final year students of higher institutions across the state have benefitted from the state’s job initiative in the last two years.
 
He further said the plan is to empower an appreciable number of students with employability skills through its Job Initiative Lagos in 2022, as the number of student participants is based on the number that registered. 
   
According to Wahab, the governor has approved a tech hub in Lagos State University and other significant tech projects, as coding and technology are the new languages.
 
Wahab, who stated that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is investing in human capital development, which is key to development, said the budget performance of the office of Special Adviser on Education last year, stood at 99 per cent, with hope to perform optimally this year.
 
The Special Adviser said in 2021,the present administration through the office upgraded 150 libraries in public schools across the state to revive reading culture among students, while a plan is in the pipeline to upgrade 200 more this year.
 
Wahab also stated that the allocation of 12.6 per cent of the budget to the education sector this year, will address more infrastructural deficit in schools across the state, while work will intensify on the over 8,000 bed space hostel being built at the Lagos State University, LASU, Ọjo.
 
The special adviser added that by next week, recognition will be granted to the state by the National Universities Commission to run the two new state universities.
