• Committee seeks moratorium on creation of new parastatals, federal agencies
Federal Government has received reports on the review of White Paper on restructuring and rationalisation of Federal Government parastatals, and that of the committee on review of new Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions (PACs) created after submission of the Oronsaye Report in 2014.
This was as the committee called on the Federal Government to place a moratorium on creation of new PACs and direct National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission to adhere strictly to the Act that established it and desist from approving salaries.
The committee also called for strict adherence by political office holders to their terms of engagement, especially in relation to appointment of aides, warning that Nigeria need to urgently reduce cost of governance to improve living standards of its citizens.
Chairman of the committee and former Head of Service, Ms Amal Pepple, disclosed this while submitting the report to Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, yesterday, in Abuja.
She said reforms in the public service have become pertinent, considering the fact that the year 2022 budget has a recurrent expenditure of 40.3 per cent (N6.91 trillion) and a capital budget of 31.9 per cent (N5.471 trillion), while the balance is made up of debt servicing and statutory allocations.
Mustapha said all outstanding actions to finalise the issue of restructuring and rationalisation would be addressed in the shortest possible time, adding that a White Paper committee would be set up to review the report of the committee on PACs and commissions created between 2012 and October 2021.
