Taraba blast killed nine, affected 121 households, NEMA confirms
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has killed one person and injured seven others at a bar in Gashua, Yobe State.
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly planted the IED, a week after the Geidam border community was attacked and a dozen residents killed.
Confirming the incident, yesterday, in Damaturu, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Dungus Abdulkarim, said: “Our Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) detectives are at the scene in Gashua. They are to find out the type of explosives used at the bar premises that injured seven people.”
According to him, the injured persons have already been evacuated for treatment at Specialist Hospital, Gashua.
He added: “It appears that it was a coordinated attack of the Boko Haram terrorists operating in the border communities with Niger.”
NO fewer than 121 households were affected by the recent bomb blast in Iware community of Ardo-Kola Local Council of Taraba State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials, who were at the venue, yesterday, for a damage assessment, also confirmed the loss of nine lives in the blast, which they said left many injured and others displaced.
According to the Head, Taraba/Adamawa Operations Office of NEMA, Ayuba Ladan, who gave the figures, the blast rendered many persons incapacitated.
The “crucial” visit, he added, was at the directive of the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib, whom he said expressed concern over the unfortunate occurrence.
The police had claimed that only six persons were killed in the explosion that occurred last Tuesday, at a drinking joint in Angwan Kassa area of Iware.
