Two groups from the North are torn between the political ambitions of two South South politicians eyeing President Muhammadu Buhari’s seat.
While Jonathan Dawo Dawo Network (JDDN) is rooting for former president Goodluck Jonathan on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, Arewa Coalition for Sustainable Governance (ACSG) and other groups vowed to mobilise over 15 million votes for Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gives him its presidential ticket.
The Coordinator, JDDN, Isa Karkasara, described drafting Jonathan to the 2023 presidential race as a national sacrifice and best option for the country.
Karkasara stated in Kano, yesterday that the country was at a crossroads and in dire need of liberation.
“We need a man of candour, whose experience in the area of self-discipline and national life to navigate us from the troubled waters. That is why Jonathan’s candidacy is an option for better Nigeria,” he statement.
According to him, the country’s current situation, at best, can no longer be entrusted in the hands of inexperienced politicians whose contact and influence radiate within shallow boundaries.
He said: “Jonathan is a quintessential statesman, whose approach to exercising power and authority, had in no small way boosted participatory democracy in Nigeria.
“At this auspicious time of our national life, we need a personality, whose understanding of the polity will guarantee right to stability.”
ALSO, more groups from the North have continued to root for Emmanuel to become the president.
While ACSG vowed to mobilise over 15 million votes for the governor, Arewa Youth for Development and National Unity (AYDNU) urged the PDP to field him as its presidential candidate, to improve its chances of victory in the election.
The Northern groups said they had studied all the presidential aspirants in all the parties and discovered Emmanuel as a unifying factor and visionary leader with the capacity to address the problems facing the country at the moment.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Alh. Tukur Abdullahi, and Secretary, Ibrahim Bindawa, ACSG said Nigerians could no longer afford to endure failed leadership, adding that security, food, employment, industrial growth and development challenges could be addressed, if the country resources were well managed.
“We have always advocated a president with great understanding of the economy and a detribalised Nigerian, who has demonstrated ability to unite the country as well as hit the ground running immediately elected,” the stated.
In a statement by its spokesman, Muhammad Imam, AYDNU insisted that Udom would open more economic opportunities for Nigeria just like he did in Akwa Ibom State.
