An author, Rafiu Kuteyi, has called on the government to take measures to ensure that the lives and property of Nigerians being lost to insecurity on a daily basis are protected and secured.
In his book, ‘Leah Sharibu: Heroine of Faith,’ Kuteyi said the issue that took Leah Sharibu into captivity is still alive in the country, urging the government to wake up to its responsibilities in the face of the challenging situation.
According to Kuteyi, who is also a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the security of the entire citizenry lies in the hands of God, but the Nigerian Constitution puts the responsibility primarily on the government’s shoulders.
Speaking during the launch, he urged the government to pay more attention to security personnel and their welfare as well as equipping them better than they are currently.
“The issue that took Leah Sharibu into captivity is right in front of us. The government needs to wake up and we need to keep agitating until the situation gets better,” she said.
More so, the book reviewer, a consultant at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Olasheni Abubakar, said the book was a robust attempt to give insight into the problems and issues surrounding insecurity in the country.
“The book cataloged the insecurity incidences since 2009 to 2021. It’s a robust attempt, putting all these things together, telling us the problems and issues that surround insecurity,” he said.
Sharibu was among the 109 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, Yobe State, in February 2018, who hasn’t been released because she declined to renounce her religion.
