Deesick is a Nigerian alternative pop, EDM and RnB artist. His latest project ‘Sickness SZN’ is broken into three volumes. A move that he believes is necessary for thorough digestion and appreciation of the themes and stylistic shift that is to be found on the project.
The first song on this volume of the record, ‘Kompany’ is a chill Afrobeat/ Highlife inspired jam about love and the wanting of it. It features budding Afro-pop artist OBT, who’s been known on the underground scene for his audacious sound and vicarious vocal performances. The nature of their collaboration is simplistic, enjoyable and easy to get into.

The second song ‘Change’ comes with a different meditative/inspirational mood, married with elements of ambient electronic music. It is a song about the jettisoning of failure and bad energy, in search of redemption and success in life.
On this song, Deesick features Wonderthahypeman, a rapper known mostly for his work on popular Nollywood actor, Charles Okocha’s many comedic skits on Instagram as his comedic foil. His work as a rapper is largely felt here though, as we do not hear any familiar comic themes in his extrapolation of Deesick’s brilliant chorus in the parts of this song where he raps.
According to Deesick, the contrast in lyricism and mood between these two songs will be a recurrence in the coming volumes of Sickness SZN.
As the singer is experiencing these social issues and themes, he wishes to use his music as a point of release and fellowship with his fans.
