The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) has elected Fusi Akinkugbe as the new council chairman.
He succeeds Gbola Sobande, and was handed the mantle of leadership at the society’s 64th yearly general meeting, held at Vocational Training Centre, Oshodi, Lagos.
As part of FNSB mission, he is to produce sustainable and collaborative support for the blind by advocating, rehabilitating, empowering the blind and working to prevent blindness.
Akinkugbe, in his acceptance speech, said he was set to spearhead FNSB’s vision to become a world model for breaking down barriers affecting the blind.
Akinkugbe, before his new position, was the vice-chairman of the executive council of the FNSB.
Qualified as a chartered accountant in the UK and Nigeria, he started his career in accounting practice at the former Coopers and Lybrand (now part of PriceWaterhouseCoopers).
He has worked in the corporate sector as Treasury Controller at DHL International Nigeria and later as chief executive of a technology services company founded by Accenture, among other institutions.
