In an effort to support underprivileged children and orphans in women-led households across Africa, Investment One, has made a one-off donation of N2,000,000.00 to the African Child Trust (ACT) to support their cause
on alleviation of poverty in Africa.
They support children through the education cycle whilst meeting their material and welfare needs and to reach their potential in life to contribute meaningfully to society.
According to Investment One, also work with women, such as widows, single mothers, grandmothers with responsibility of looking after the children alone and by themselves – centres around training and financial support to generate income in a sustainable way.
They said the move is to empower them to look after their families.
Projects are carried out in Education, Health, and Sanitation to enrich local community. ACT is currently working in eight countries in Africa, such as Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria (focus is in the Ayobo-Ipaja community in Lagos State) Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
The representative of the African Child Trust, who benefited from Investment One support programme, Mrs Yetunde Onipede, said that ACT will use the money to support education of orphans and vulnerable children of needy widows in Africa.
Onipede, mentioned that they also use such support to provide funding to help pay for child schooling and to provide necessary support for the widow and her family.
In many countries access to education is not free or affordable for the poor. This practical demonstration of caring brings hope to the children and the widows and contributes to breaking the long-term cycle of poverty.
