Lagos govt inaugurates technical committee on lbeju-Lekki city plan

Lagos State Government has inaugurated a technical committee, made up of civil servants, to work with consultants on the preparation of Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan to tackle planning challenges on the axis.

The state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, who spoke during the inauguration of the committee in Alausa, Ikeja, said it became expedient to give Ibeju-Lekki a functional development plan, considering the economic potentials of the axis.

Salako said that despite holding serious economic promises, Ibeju-Lekki was until now not covered by any development plan dedicated to its spatial and sectoral development but subsumed under Epe Master Plan and Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan, both of which paid little attention to the increasing growth of the area.

He said the present administration in the state decided to pull out Ibeju-Lekki model city plan from Lekki comprehensive master plan to proactively plan for the sustainable development of the axis over the next 20 years and forestall the abnormal situation of a plan having to chase development.

The commissioner, therefore, enjoined members of the technical committee to work assiduously towards realising the objectives of preparing the plan, while urging them to make their experiences in the service count in form of meaningful inputs to the process.

He also urged the consultants, MOA Planners Limited, to live up to its billing by not leaving any stone unturned in delivering an enduring plan, among which is to realise the urgent need to incorporate in the plan excision layout for the various land-holding families in the area.
