Contrary to the belief that some music can be considered as ‘bad music, prolific entertainer, Japhet Attah Egwumah a.k.a Japhman, a hype man artist, music artist, host, actor, comedian and a complete entertainer is of the opinion that “bad music doesn’t exist”
He explains, “Music is a universal language that cultivates a lot of feelings within people. I believe that good music speaks a particular message into the soul of an individual. It is very motivational for people and societies. In regard to bad music, I don’t believe that it exists. Different types of music speak to different types of people, so everyone won’t have the same preferences. E.g. Some music might feature explicit content, which would be bad to some. But for others, it might be exactly what they need to hear. So, bad music, in my opinion, doesn’t exist”
Japhman who began his musical career in Nigeria at the Kogi State University in 2004 and sharing the same stage with the great twins, P-Square in 2005 believes Africa has arrived on the world stage, particularly praising the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti for his gift of Afrobeat, a genre of music which other Nigerian artists have propagated around the world.
“I believe that all African artists are great in their own unique ways, but I would have to give props to the people who have laid out the foundation for afrobeats, such as Fela Anipulapokuti. He was very influential in the growth of music in Africa. The modern-day artists are doing a great job keeping the genre alive, as well. So, kudos to all the Naija artists making afrobeats great,” he said.
Japhman, who has made a name for himself as a comedian, host and actor, has revealed that the real passion to carve a niche for himself in the entertainment space began in the church.
