Troops of Nigerian Army and Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in a coordinated fighter jets airstrikes of Nigeria Air Force (NAF) killed scores of Boko Haram terrorists, and captured Mallam Fatori town on the shores of Lake Chad in Borno state; in early hours of Wednesday.

Mallm Fatori, is the council headquarters of Abadam, 245 kilometres northeast of Maiduguri; and had been occupied by the terrorists since 2015, before Wednesday’s joint military operations liberated the
fishing community with Niger and Chad.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman disclosed this Wednesday in the Hausa Service of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) monitored in Maiduguri.

He said that the re-capture of Mallam Fatori was the combined efforts of troops of Nigerian Army, MNJTF and fighter jets of NAF that provided surveillance and reconnaissance to kill scores of terrorists, before taking over the border community from terrorists’ occupation.

“It took a long time for our joint military operations to succeed on Wednesday. A lot of the terrorists were killed, while several arms and ammunition were also recovered from some of the fleeing Boko Haram fighters.

“But most of the terrorists had no escape routes, but to fall to the troops’ superior firing power to be crushed and recapture the occupied border town of Mallam Fatori,” Usman was quoted told BBC.

He said that despite the successes of decimating the terror group, there are pockets and remnants of Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest and northern parts of Borno state.

“Our troops are working round the clock on how to rout remnants of terrorists from two other council areas of Mobbar and Guzamala in the state,” assured Usman.
