Since the Chris Rock and Will Smith slap occurred about six months ago, Chris Rock has been inundated with invitations to appear in films, host awards ceremonies, and even promote merchandise with slap-related themes. Despite this, he has steadfastly declined to do so.

He spoke openly about the events that followed the notorious slap during a performance that took place in Phoenix. He claimed that the Oscars committee contacted him and politely declined his offer to host the greatest moment in Hollywood.
In a lighthearted comment, Chris Rock said that if he returned to the Oscars, it would be as if he were going back to a crime scene. He then riffed on the O.J. Simpson trial, stating that it would be like if Nicole Brown Simpson had returned to the restaurant where she left the sunglasses before she was killed.
Craig Erwich, president of entertainment at ABC, spoke to media sources in May to inquire about Chris Rock’s interest in hosting the 2023 ceremony of the illustrious awards programme. However, at the same time, the academy’s chief executive by the name of Bill Kramer stated that they wanted to put the slapping incident to rest so that the public could move on.
“We want to move forward and have an Oscars that celebrates cinema, that’s our focus right now. It’s really about moving forward. A host is very important to us. We are committed to having a host on the show this year, and we are already looking at some key partners on that.”
In advance of the event, they won’t know whether there will be a host.
