Groups train youths on vocational skills


The Heritage Counseling Initiative and Prolific Stella Initiative, have trained over 35 youths in different types of vocational skills to reduce the spate of unemployment in the country.

At a two-day skill acquisition training programme tagged ‘Why teens empowerment,’ held in Ogun State, the teenagers, were trained in soap, foot wear and beads making, among others.

The founder of Heritage Counseling Initiative, Patricia Idowu, said the skill acquisition was important to equip the teenagers with financial independence.

According to her, it is essential to build the confidence of the younger generation to confront the challenges ahead of them.
On her part, founder, Prolific Stella Initiative, Stella Adekunle-Beyioku, said it was important for the country to embrace entrepreneurial activities at the grassroot to be prosperous, adding that the resultant effect would create jobs for the people.

“When teenagers take part in entrepreneurship skills, the value they gain is enormous. It helps them to have a contributors’ mentality and helps them to be self-reliant and less of a liability to society.

“It is important for them to be creative. The older generation should assist the younger ones to build solid foundations that will serve as support for them.

One of the facilitators, Abiola Adebunmiti, said, “Empowering youths from grassroot at a tender age with profitable skills accelerates spirit of patriotism and nation building in them, thereby adding value to the society.”
