Organisers certify Ikeja Golf Club ready for Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Championship
Ikeja Golf Course is in prime condition to host Nigeria’s best youngsters in the ninth Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Championship, which holds on October 21 and 22, the organisers have said.
According to the organisers, 4E Sports Promotion Ltd, the players are expected to arrive and complete their accreditation on October 20 and also get the opportunity to test the course from 4.00 p.m. same day.
In a statement made available to The Guardian, 4E Sports Promotion Ltd’s Emy Ekong disclosed that the event is already oversubscribed and so, entry has closed.
She said that being a world ranking event by R&A, only players from 12 to 16 years will play the 36 holes on October 21, adding that priority has been granted those on the National Order of Merit registered for the event.
Ekong advised all the players to come with their birth certificates for accreditation purposes, adding, “Players based in Lagos State and already registered for the event will not be affected by this reduction. They will all play as the host state.
“The final list of approved and registered players will be posted released on Friday, October 7. So, do not travel from your state to the event venue if your name is not on the list,” she said.
Ekong advised coaches, parents and clubs to furnish the organisers the real date of birth dates of the 73 players already registered for the event, saying doing so would enable the organisers compile the final list of participants before tomorrow.
She added: “The full list of participants will be posted on Friday, October 7. So, players should come to the venue with their birth certificates.”
