A non-profit International organisation Action Against Hunger (AAH), Nigeria’s mission has expressed the readiness of the Federal Government towards the entrenchment of the National Social Protection Policy in the country.

AAH Head of Advocacy, Communication, and Strategy, Mr. Wilson Ikwebe, who made the remark at a capacity building workshop in Jigawa, stressed that the government had shown commitment to actualising the framework to improve the leaving standard of the less privileged.

Ikwebe, who disclosed that the draft framework which is already updated and submitted to the Federal Government after critical review by stakeholders in April 2022, was optimistic about quick legislative action and executive order on the draft.

He, however, applauded some state governments who have already activated commitment to the implementation of social protection policy, including Yobe and Borno, while urging governors to emulate a similar gesture.

The AAH Advocacy head emphasised that the capacity building organised for journalists and members of civil society organisations were designed to stimulate strategic campaign on social accountability.

He said participants are being equipped with the requisite approach, including dialogue, negotiation, and influencing concerned authorities to implement social protection policy.

Ikwebe, however, challenged participants to reawake public consciousness of their right to demand social accountability from those they elected into various political offices.
