Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), yesterday, tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to sweep off alleged drug barons, and fraudsters in his government.

The call followed the confirmation by the Chairman and Chief Executive officer of, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Professor Bolaji Owasanoye of the presence of drug traffickers and fraudsters as federal appointees in Buhari’s administration

Applauding the boldness of ICPC’s boss for calling a spade by its name, HURIWA in a statement by the National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, lamented that several government institutions under the current dispensation are governed by rogues without moral capacity. HURIWA said: “We found a volume of corruption going on in a particular agency of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism in which the Director General and the directors have connived to carry out heists of public funds and are engaged in fraudulent recruitments, including offering positions to persons who are not qualified on the ground of nepotism.

“It is so unfortunate that President Muhammadu Buhari is now being accused of nominating drug barons and fraudsters for public offices and this goes a long way to depict the kind of government that is in place.

“We are challenging President Muhammadu Buhari to name all those indicted persons who were smuggled into public offices because the continued stay of these persons of questionable character will endanger the ability of government to implement policies and programmes that are tailored towards scaling up good governance, transparency and accountability in Nigeria,” the group added.
