Speaking at the event, the MD/CEO of the media outfit, Hajia Aminat Muhammad, disclosed that her organisation keyed in to celebrate the globally recognised event since 2017 with the main objective of nurturing and mentoring girls from different backgrounds.
Partnering Nurturing Fitrah Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, Hajia Muhammad said that her outfit has always focused on grooming teenagers, irrespective of gender, adding that this year, they thought it wise to concentrate on the girl-child because of the seeming lack of some of them still face.
Harping on the global theme, “Digital Generation Our Generation” and a sub-theme, “My First Menstruation Experience, In Our Digital Generation Our Generation,” she noted that a lot of girls still do not have proper hygiene during their monthly flow and that the event will teach them how to overcome such challenges and boost self-confidence.
To add colours to the event, each participating school presented playlets, spoken words, monologues and poems on menstruation with winners going home with different prizes. Hilal Takaful Insurance gave one of the girls a free education insurance plan.
The President, Baytul Sekinah Orphanage Home, Dr Nurah Babalola, whose organisation teamed up with the media outfit to hold the event, urged teenage girls to harness the opportunity of digitalisation to excel in life.
Former General Manager, NTA Channel 10, Lagos, Mrs Helen Odeleye, enjoined the girls to have self-confidence, as this will make them more successful in their careers.
“Girl children are specially made by God, don’t ever look down on yourself or think someone is better than you or more successful than you. Don’t compare yourself with anybody,” she said.
Hajia Muhammad disclosed that her organisation partnered with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Lagos Branch; The Criterion (Muslim Women in Business and Professions) and Hilal Takaful to hold the event.
