Etisalat Under-15 School Cup champions to earn N2m

Winners of the second Etisalat National Under-15 School Football Championship will earn N2 million, among other prizes, the organisers have revealed.

Speaking during the draws for the final stage of the competition in Lagos on Monday, the organizers said the championship was aimed at discovering young talented footballers for the country, adding that schools and students would derive a lot of benefits from featuring in the event.

In the draws, Rimi College, Kaduna, will meet Army Day Junior Secondary School, Sokoto, while Winners College, Akure, Ondo is to trade tackles with Washington Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Greensprings Secondary School, Lekki, Lagos will face Asegun High School, Oyo and Government Secondary School, Imo, will showcase it skills against Government Model School, Bida, Niger State.

According to Etisalat’s Chief Marketing Officer, Angelone Francesco, the company embarked on the sponsorship because it saw it worthwhile to invest in the sporting passion and talents of people in their host communities.

“This is a means of promoting grassroots football and motivating young football stars,” he added.

Aside the cash prize of N2 million for the overall winner of the tournament, he revealed that each student of the victorious school would get N50, 000 as bursary.

Other prizes, he added, include N1 million for the runners up and N30, 000 for each student, while N750, 000 will go to the third placed school and 20, 000 for each student as bursary.
