Some bandits, on Friday, attacked Gidan Ityotyev, a Tiv community in Obi Local Council of Nasarawa State, killing two persons and injuring scores of others.

The Gidan Ityotyev attack came barely two weeks after suspected herdsmen attacked Gidan Sule, a Tiv farming community in Keana Local Council of the same state, killing about 10 persons.

A resident of Gidan Ityotyev, Mr. Ukpuu Teryila Abaa, gave names of those killed during Friday’s attack including Moses Saaku and Aondofa Saaku.

Abaa said the attackers also chopped off the breast of one, Kwaghdoo Saaku.

He revealed that the attack took place at about 11:00 pm on Friday when almost every member of the village had gone to bed.

The President, Tiv Development Association, (TIDA) in Nasarawa, Comrade Peter Ahemba, also said that two people were killed and one other injured, with hundreds of Tiv people displaced in the course of the attack.

Ahemba, however, blamed the attack on what he termed a “conspiracy of silence” among the political class in the two local councils of Obi and Keana.

“It is a conspiracy of silence fashioned against the Tiv people of the state by some tribal politicians in Obi and Keana Local Councils.”

The intention, according to Peter, is to displace Tiv people in the two councils to disenfranchise them during the 2023 general elections.

The Nassarawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the incident was yet to be reported to the state Police Command.
