The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) will soon meet with the 36 state governors and encourage them to invest in the power sector with a view to boosting generation.
The Benue State government has also begun moves to generate about 10 megawatts of electricity for the state’s industrial sector.
The project, in the form of embedded power plant, would see the state invest about $18 million.
To actualise the dream, Governor Samuel Ortom, yesterday, approached NERC, to initiate discussions and announce the state’s partnership with the firm, Contec Global.
Ortom said: “We have completed the feasibility study. Based on it, we have 10MW of three units of 3.4MW each. For the moment, it was estimated to cost about $16 million to $18 million, besides other components that we have not included.” He also announced that gas to power the plant would be sourced from Anambra State.
