As campaigns for the 2023 general elections kicks off, Director Media Justice Nigeria (MJN), Anote Ajeluorou, has canvassed utmost civility and charged politicians and their supporters to ensure media men and women are not hindered from doing their job of informing the electorate.
In a statement issued in Lagos, he said this “is essential in a democracy and politicians must not be seen to jeopardise the work of journalists in whatever guise.”
Speaking further, he said politicians must be reminded that they need the media to take their messages to the electorate while canvassing for votes, noting that this relationship should be mutually reciprocal.
He further cautioned the police and the DSS to be circumspect and not always take sides with politicians and other ‘big men and women’ even when a court of law is yet to pronounce anyone guilty, particularly journalists.
