The governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in Rivers State, Dr. Dawari George, has lamented environmental challenges in the state despite release of ecological funds.

George said it was sad that previous administrations in the state were not proactive in dealing with perennial flooding in the state.

He said: “This is not the first time we are experiencing a flood disaster and all we will hear is that we are on top of the situation but there was no proactive action from the government despite several warnings by NIMET.”

The governorship hopeful, who is a former member of the House of Representatives, stated this, yesterday, in Port Harcourt while inaugurating his Bridge Campaign Council and presenting of the manifesto.

He said: “I will not interfere with the ecological funds as governor and I will ensure we deal with environmental challenges squarely.”

“Under our plan for industry, innovation and infrastructure, if elected as governor come 2023, we will revive industrial layouts in the state.

“We are proposing a tech economy for Rivers State. We must get the state back as an industrial hub. Trans Amadi Industrial Layout has become a graveyard.

Today, our state is run by strongmen. We will not run the state with strongmen but with strong institutions. We will pump money into the economy of Rivers State. We want to be held responsible for every action we will take as governor.”
