Nigeria On Brink Of Collapsing — Methodist Prelate
The Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins has expressed serious concerns over the present state of the nation, saying Nigerians daily feel the pains of bad governance and leadership.

He, therefore, implored Nigerians to elect competent leaders during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking during the 44th Annual National Convention of Ladies of St Mulumba (LSM) Nigeria, held at St Leo Catholic Church Ikeja, Lagos, yesterday, he said: “Our country has been battered over the years and we all can feel the pain of bad governance and leadership.”

According to him, lack of good governance has made people unhappy, adding, “If we have government that gives people a sense of belonging, we will not be where we are.”

Speaking further, he lamented worsening insecurity and kidnapping with the rich, poor, students, young and elderly being victims.

He noted that the poverty level is high with Nigeria now referred to as the poverty capital of the world. He also said that the recent flooding crisis has made life more difficult for many, as it destroyed houses and farmlands.

“Nigerians have a duty to take seriously this coming election. We must not limit ourselves to issues concerning ethnicity or religion.

“We must show interest in the ongoing political activities. We must listen to what politicians have to say. We must listen to what they intend to do and how to go about it in order to ensure peace returns to the nation. Many of them are just repeating the old promises.”

In her speech, LSM Lagos Metropolitan President, Lady Juliet Damian-Isuigwe said the theme of the convention, “Women Promoting peace amidst Ethno-Religious and Political Barriers”, was apt, considering the current state of the country.

She said 62 years after independence; the nation still grapples with numerous ethno-religious challenges and agitation to secede.

Similarly, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His eminence, Samuel Chuwuemeka Uche, has said that Nigeria is on the brink of collapsing, noting the country is gradually becoming a failed state.

Addressing the media in Lagos, Uche said that apart from the unabated corruption that has continued to drown the country into the mire manifesting in various angles, including the recent flooding, Nigerians are hungry and many are dying without the sympathy of mindless politicians whose primary goal is to amass wealth, not minding whose ox is gored.

Uche said that apart from the humongous problems of politicians not having the interest of Nigerians at heart, corruption has become endemic.

He called on Nigerians to vote wisely during the coming elections, by electing politicians with good pedigree.
