Spokesman of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Emma Powerful, yesterday, commended its members, who staged a peaceful protest at Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, demanding unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody, which, according to him, was part of the Court of Appeal verdict.
Powerful, in a statement, yesterday, stated that the leadership of IPOB was informed that while members and other lovers of Kanu were peacefully matching, some unscrupulous elements and criminals, including political thugs, used the opportunity to destroy political billboards in Aba.
He stated that IPOB has no political enemies that would warrant it destroying billboards of any political party or persons, asserting that its members are not responsible for the destruction of political billboards at Aba.
The statement reads: “It’s on record that for over eight years IPOB protested everywhere in the world; we have been peaceful, civil, and organised. There have never been any records of violence, destruction and loss of property. We never provoked unwarranted military assaults from Nigerian security forces.”
Warning political enemies and oppositions to settle their problems and leave IPOB out of their misunderstandings, Powerful stated that the only politics IPOB will be interested in is a referendum for an independent Biafra and any politics involved in that process.
Commenting on another development, Powerful denied that IPOB had hand in the alleged kidnap of a military man from Ohafia Council of the state, noting that “IPOB found that the military man missed his way, and delayed in joining his colleagues in their vehicle, while the army declared him kidnapped by IPOB members. We are not kidnappers or killers.
“IPOB members are only after the release of Kanu from DSS custody since courts of competent jurisdictions have discharged and acquitted him of all charges. We are not interested in Nigeria’s fraudulent elections.
“We are warning IPOB members to watch out for any political thug, who wants to hide under IPOB to attack political enemies or carry out any destruction of properties.”
