Sir: The recent action carried out by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in renaming the Tai Solarin College of Education, Science and Technology after the Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, though seen as commendable is also capable of setting a bad precedent for the remaining educational institutions in Nigeria.  

While it is true that the monarch, as one of the leading traditional rulers in Nigeria, deserves that a monument be named after him educational institutions are meant to immortalise only those who have contributed immensely to the growth of education not only in every community but in the country as a whole.

So while Oba Sikiru Adetona certainly qualifies to have a monument named after him, it definitely should not be an educational institution so as to prevent situations where obas, even those without any noticeable achievement will now start demanding that educational institutions be named after them.
