Every time Oyedele Alokan, professionally known as Oyedele, drops a new record, it always reflects his depth of artistry. And in his latest offering dubbed, Da’gboru, the Afro-fusion enigma outdoes his brilliance once again.
The song Da’gboru centers around traditional culture and the misconception it receives under western lenses. The song is boldly Nigerian, accompanied by an energetic outburst of Afro fusion sounds: afrobeat, afrobeats and hip-hop.
In Da’Gboru, Oyedele raps with fervour, coursing through the Tosin Amire-produced instrumental in a smooth blend of Yoruba and English delivery. Da’gboru continues to emphasise Oyedele’s presence as a modern artist inspired by tradition– the single follows Faramo, a song that eulogises the artiste’s religious background.
“Life inspired it. Identity, politics, how we see ourselves as Nigerians and how the world sees us as well. Tosin Amire makes these vivid instrumentals and he sent one to me. When I heard it, I could see and envision it, so I built this world around it.
The idea behind Da’gboru is a superhero that embodies a Nigerian culture that is aware of its roots. This is why the whole idea behind the artwork, and rollout are comic-based,” he tells Weekend Beats.
Da’Gboru is out across streaming platforms.
