
The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu, has been conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration by the Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, following his contributions to national development.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Uwakwe Amadikwa, who conferred the degree on Moghalu at the 7th Convocation ceremony of the university, on Saturday, said that Moghalu was selected for his track record in public office.
In his response, after receiving the award, Moghalu promised to continue contributing to socio-economic and human development of Nigeria.
A statement made available to newsmen, yesterday, in Onitsha, by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, NIWA, Jibril Darda’u, noted that Moghalu would be spurred to do more, through NIWA, to positively impact Nigerians through making waterways safe.
Moghalu said: “I want to use this opportunity to thank the university for finding me worthy of this award.
“I promise to do more in my contribution to socio-economic and human development of not just Anambra State, but Nigeria as a whole. And I will not let the university down in the trust it has bestowed on me; rather, I will continue to do more for the nation.
“I will equally assist Nigerians in their businesses on the water, as well as generate revenue for government through activities of NIWA.”
