Universal Promotional Wrestling Federation’s (UPWF) former heavyweight champion, Ambassador Osita Offor, also known as De Ultimate Commander, has been nominated by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its candidate for Abia North Senatorial election.

Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is the incumbent Senator representing the zone.

However, since late last year, there have been moves by a group of elders from Abia North seeking to recall the former governor from the Senate over his alleged failure to protect interests of his constituents.

De Commander, who held the UPWF world heavyweight title from 2006 to 2017, according to reports, was recently summoned by elders to a meeting, where his expected roles in the Senate were spelt out to him.

A source close to promoters of De Ultimate Commanders’ campaign told The Guardian that they chose ADC because “it has no baggage in Abia State.”

He said: “The elders considered the peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), but they settled for ADC, because the position was free, and the party is operating on a clean slate.

“There are crises in PDP and APC in Abia North, which prompted our elders to look for a credible candidate to rescue the zone from sharks holding it down.

“We would have a meeting, in Umuahia, later this month after which we will launch our ‘Operation free Abia North.’ That will kickoff the movement.”
