Lagos State Government has charged residents of the state to be safety cautious in this Yuletide period.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, gave the charge, yesterday, at the agency’s Christmas Carol Service held at the Command and Control Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.

He said: “I appealed to the people of Lagos State that while they are celebrating in this festive period, they should abide by the rules of safety and be humble in what they do. People should ensure that they do not store petrochemicals or inflammable substances at homes as well as ensure that their children are kept safe.”

Oke-Osanyintolu said there was need for the agency and its workers to give God the praise for being with them since the beginning of the year.

MEANWHILE, the state government, yesterday, emphasised the need for instructors in Skills Acquisition Centres (SACs) to be abreast of modern technological trends, thereby increasing productivity in workplaces.

Director of Skills Acquisition Development Unit, Joke Oshodi-Olasunkanmi, stated this at a programme where 283 instructors of SACs were trained to be innovative and upskilled in their delivery.

She said that the training, which was organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs And Poverty Alleviation, was important to produce proactive instructors that could withstand the characteristics of a 21st Century mega economy status, create a conducive learning environment for students, increase job satisfaction and morale of instructors, as well as improve productivity.

Oshodi-Olasunkanmi said that he training was part of the state government’s quest to build capacity to gain and retain top talents that would help achieve the mandate of the ministry to reduce poverty through skills acquisition and vocational training.

“By acquiring vocational skills, this would aid development and enhance both people’s capacities to work and earn a living. Note also that it was equally important to update the instructors on how they could introduce creative and innovative ideas to meet up with best practices.

“There’s no end to learning. No one is perfect and there is always a scope for improvement. Why are we training our instructors? As much as they need to know the vocation, they also need to know how to transfer that information to the students.

“The training was organised to increase the knowledge of instructors and also educate them on how to create effective good teaching methods and relationship with students of skills acquisition centres. The training was also necessary to enlighten the instructors on how to be abreast of modern technological trends and meet up with the demands of the 21st Century.”
