The need for pupils to spare a thought for the needy, and the downtrodden formed the crux of messages delivered at the 2022 Mind Builders School (MBS) Christmas Carol, which held in Lagos over the weekend.

Specifically, the school’s Director of Education, Mrs. Bola Falore, admonished the learners to always reflect on the lives that they live, be humane and consider ways and means of making life worth living for the less privileged.

The event featured congregational hymns, drama presentations, Bible reading, mass choir, solo/duet piano presentations, Christmas songs and carol presentations all performed by the pupils, teachers and parents.

Commenting on the essence of the season, Falore said: “History proves that Christmas remains one of the most enjoyable time of the year. People light their homes with candles, decorations and trees. Christmas reminds us to stick to the essential aspect of human kind, as we share gifts to one another; remember the underprivileged; spend time with loved ones; eating traditionally prepared turkey, singing and dancing, catching up with long lost childhood friends, and showing lot of love towards each other.”

In addition to the carols and others, the pupils staged a story presentation titled: “I wish. I wish,” which taught a great deal about being careful of what is wished for, especially in this Christmas season.

Falore while commenting on the theme of the drama said it also teaches a lot of how much people need to cherish their loved ones, friends and families, while also learning to appreciate them.

According to her, the storyline is centred mainly on the “Ant Kingdom” and life lessons from the tiny creatures who are well-organised.

Drawing further life lessons from the story, Falore said ants have unselfish unity, which is needed in various families, communities and the society at large through the value of love.

She listed other values taught by the drama to include, great teamwork, spirit of sharing, sense of discipline, integrity, timeless reaction to issues, tirelessness and persistence.

The education director, who urged people to use this period to reflect on their ways of life and be very humbled, further enjoined people to enjoy every bit of the Christmas celebration and remember to love, live in harmony and reach out to people around them, especially the underprivileged.
