
Police Eminent Persons (PEPF), Lagos State Command has honoured some distinguished Nigerians, including Lagos Commissioner of Police (CP), Abiodun Alabi; Prof. Joseph Onamo Agboye, Olufunke Gbajabiamila and Wemimo Odumosu, for their contributions to a safer society through community policing.
During the investiture at Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos, performed by PEPF Chairman, Balogun Koleosho, Alabi was presented with the Commissoner Plaque for diligently securing the state.
Koleosho then conferred on Agboye State Patron of PEPF.
The 92-year-old Gbajabiamila, who was Lagos Coordinator of WRAPPA, founded by Justice Titi Abubakar, was announced Grand Patron of PEPF, with the plaque received by her representative, Mojisola Badru.
Odumosu, on the other hand, was inducted into the forum.
In his citation, Koleosho said: “It is worth mentioning that Prof. Agboye played great and noble roles in the establishment of the Ketu Police Division as far back as 1979 and the Area ‘H’ Police Command, Ogun in 1986. He also served either as pioneer Chairman or Special Member of the PCRC of the division and command.
“He was also appointed a member of PCRC of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, in 1992. Though he resigned all these positions in 1996 for further studies, he (Agboye) still remains a Father to the Police till today (43 years ago) still giving his unlimited moral support. Currently,he is the chairman of the Eminent Persons Forum of the Nigeria Police Force, Ketu Divisional Headquarters, Ketu, Lagos.”
In his remarks, CP Alabi, who was represented by DCP in charge of Administration and Finance, Bassey Samuel Ewah, lauded the Forum for its support and policy of identifying and reporting promptly security risk whenever the need arises.
He pledged to sustain the tempo in securing Lagos.
Earlier, PEPF Deputy Chairman, Christ Johnson, in his paper titled, ‘Selflessness Is The Panacea To A Successful Community Policing,’ urged commitment to the initiative.
He charged: “Don’t ask what the society should do to you, but it should be what you should do to the for the benefit of mankind.
“Contribute your little resource to make the society safer via community police. Selfless service a must for the policy succeed,” Johnson stressed.
His words: “Selflessness is the panacea to a successful integration of people towards achieving a meaningful inroad in community policing in the 21st Century.
“For a successful eradication of crime in the society/community, there must be a conscious selfless synergy towards the move by members of the community and society at large in coming together to assist men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“Selflessness here is going the extra mile to galvanise people to fall in line with our aims and objectives for a crime-free community. And that’s exactly what PEPF stands for and what we are doing in our immediate community and environment.”
