The Advanced Centre for Advocacy Development of Muslims Community (ACADEMY) organised a one-day rotational lecture to enlighten members on eroding Islamic tenets and good governance.
The public lecture titled, ‘Leadership positioning and good governance the communal role of Muslims” by the Raees of Ameer Shereef Mayaleeke, President of ACADEMY.
The event held in lta Elewa ground, Ikorudu, Lagos, attracted over 2,500 Muslim delegates from across the country.
Speaking, Executive Secretary Academy, Dr. Murktado Oloke , disclosed that the academy is open to all Muslim members irrespective of their educational and social background.
While referred to the lecture given earlier by The Rares of the Ameer Shereef Mayaleeke, he highlighted the Islamic roles and encouraged members to abide by Islamic rules as regular reminders for Muslims to continuously engage in their devotional worship to Allah and remaining steadfast and partake in role of good governance as credible leaders or followers
Oloke disclosed that the institution promotes two major values Islamic Science and global education. It also encourages Muslim scholars to be involved in good governance with healthy ideas that will benefit the citizens and society not hides such talents and skills.
He stressed the need for Muslims to actively participate in the formulation of policies and enactment of laws that will affect them. It is paramount to ensure competent Muslims represent their wards at the local and national levels.
Scholars urged Muslims to vote in elections and nominate credible people for the political democratic system of government 2023 elections.
“Appoint credible leaders who will keep the goals, which is the protection of faith, life wealth, intellect and family. A leader that will keep the public trust, resources, command virtues and forbid vices,” he said.
Oloke said:“We cannot be decision-makers if we do not participate in politics. We must be part of the decision-making process of the country, as well as managing homes and families.
“Muslims or any religious persons can hold any political position in the local state and federal offices. They should not be denied their inherent rights, nor be part of the decision-making of the policies affecting Muslim families. Whether you are aspiring for the presidency or governorship, you must know and have it at the back of your mind to protect the interest of people.”
He gave an exception for professionals like Female Sailors who will abandon children and families for a period of eight months without proper planning and preparations in their absence. He maintained that children’s upbringing require collectively responsibly from parents and society
Hajia Baseeroh Olayiwola, member of ACADEMY and founder Founder, Muslimah Care Volunteering Initiative, disclosed the NGO gives succour to widows and addresses the challenges faced in all spheres of their lives, particularly, in spiritual, socio-economic and political areas in society.
She added that Muslim women should avail themselves of political offices so as not denied their fundamental rights through political participation.
Hajia Olayiwola stressed that Muslims must be ready to participate in the electoral process. Nobody should stop Muslims from participating in the electoral process. They should partake in the country’s decision-makers and not be disadvantaged or left out.
