Delta police confirm rescue of female student who attempted suicide
The Delta State Police Command have confirmed the rescue of a female student of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe, Oghara, Delta State, who jumped from the Oghara/Benin Bridge.
According to a video shared on social media by an activist, Isreal Ojo, the young woman was rescued after jumping into the river by a team of police and local hunters, who rushed her to a hospital.
Ojo recounted that he was on his way from Benin when they saw the young woman jump from the high bridge and they immediately parked their vehicle and raised an alarm.
He said: “I was in company of my friend while we were returning from Benin when we saw someone jumped from that high bridge. We had to park and raise the alarm.
There were some locals under the bridge that ran into the river, heading straight down to the point where she fell. We also called the Divisional Police Officer in Oghara, CSP Hassan, who mobilised officers to the scene. We do not know the reasons for her actions but gathered that she is a student of Delta State Polytechnic Otefe, Oghara. The DPO and his team along with some hunters rushed her to the hospital.”
Speaking with The Guardian, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, which he said happened on Monday. He said the young lady was rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
